The Tattoo has a battery monitor app built into the Android 1.6 OS - that should be able to tell you how the battery is being used. If you dont have that app on the phone, you should be able to find it on the Marketplace.
A lot of the HTC devices have had issues with battery life, and it is pretty annoying having to charge the mobile often. As Emily wrote, have a look at the battery guide - there might be some default settings that are draining the battery too fast.

Heh, this is a common issue with HTC phones - the new generation are loads better than the old but this guide we wrote last year may help you out.
